Southeast Area

The Southeast Area Munitions Response Site (MRS) is currently in the Site Inspection (SI) stage of the Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) investigative process. During the SI, the site is inspected to determine whether Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC), Munitions Constituents (MC) are present. The SI determines whether the site will continue to the Remedial Investigation (RI) phase or have no further action taken. In 1991 this MRS was included in a visual surface sweep called “Operation Clean Sweep.” Documents reporting the findings of Operation Clean Sweep included this MRS, the Southwest MRS and the Wood Hollow MRS as one area of investigation. Munitions have been present at the Wood Hollow MRS, but is unlikely that munitions will be present at this MRS. This assumption is based upon the lack of training records related to this area and the fact that it has been managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for so many years. The SI is being conducted to ensure this assumption is correct and verify that the MRS is free of munitions.
The Southeast Area MRS consists of a 20-acre parcel of land owned by the U.S. Government and managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It is located near the southeast border of the installation. The Southeast Area is surrounded by privately owned land. A few residential areas from the city of Saratoga Springs are closest to this site.
